Terms of Service
Effective date: 17 October 2026 · Revised to align section 3 with the MIT licence.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Sunny (the “Software”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
2. Description of Service
Sunny is a free, open-source desktop assistant for older adults. It provides system health checks, medication reminders, recipe search, a news and weather digest, and text-to-speech assistance. It runs on your own computer. Some features require an internet connection and contact third-party services, which are listed in the Privacy Policy.
3. Licence
The Software is licensed under the MIT Licence. You may download, install, use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the Software, including for commercial purposes, subject to the terms of that licence.
The MIT Licence is the complete and authoritative statement of your rights. It is reproduced in full in the LICENSE file in the repository and governs in the event of any conflict with these Terms. The licence text must be preserved in copies and substantial portions of the Software.
The Software is provided with no warranty of any kind, as set out in section 4.
4. As-Is Disclaimer
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. YOU USE THE SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
5. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPERS OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THE SOFTWARE IS FREE OF CHARGE, AND THE TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE, WHICH IS ZERO.
6. Local-First Processing
Sunny is designed to process data locally on your computer. Optional features that contact third-party services are listed in full in the Privacy Policy. Sunny loads no remote code.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Sunny for any unlawful purpose, not to reverse-engineer the Software beyond the rights granted by the MIT Licence, and not to use it to harm others or their computer systems.
Sunny is built to assist, not to act unattended. Its safety confirmations, blocked actions, and permission prompts are deliberate design decisions. Do not attempt to bypass them, and do not rely on Sunny as your only safeguard for anything consequential.
8. Medication Reminders Are Not Medical Advice
Medication reminders are a convenience feature only. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice, and Sunny is not a medical device. Always consult your healthcare provider regarding medication schedules and dosages.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as Sunny changes. The current version is always published at mt25mb.github.io/Sunny/terms-of-service.html, and the effective date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
10. Contact
Sunny is maintained by volunteers and has no postal address. For any question about these Terms, open an issue at github.com/MT25MB/Sunny/issues.
